  1. Determine location of an emergency after hours vet. (Saved Spaten's life.) They have also been very helpful with questions after hours.
  2. Poison Control - $50 fee, but worth it. (I gave Junior Spaten's ear drops internally.) The numbers I have 888/426-4435 and 888/299-2973 (live in MA).
  3. Bloat - Stomach twists and becomes bloated, since nothing can come in our out. To avoid bloat, limit exercise 1/2 hour before or after eating. Also feed twice a day opposed to one big meal. Don't let them gulp down their water. We were told to put a rock in the water bowl to help. Animal Emergency saved Spaten (plus getting him their quickly also helped as the longer you wait the more damage.) We think Spaten's bloat was caused by me battling with him for bed space (we went to bed shortly after he ate), not a lot of exercise can do it. We were told, generally a problem for large deep chested dogs.

Watch your dog in your garage or tool shed, items like Anti-Freeze smell and taste sweet and can kill pets.

Another way a dog can die by hanging, and it just happened at a show, was on a grooming table. I've seen dogs left unattended on a grooming table at shows and at grooming salons. Please alert your readers of this dangerous practice. There are people now trying to pass a law to make it unlawful. "Jag" the Golden Retriever, has been the latest casualty of this dangerous practice.
